FineFIX

FineFIX

The Formalin Substitute
FineFIX is a patented formalin-free and water-based concentrate fixative. When diluted with ethanol, its formulation of low toxicity additives overcomes the drawbacks commonly associated with the use of pure ethanol or ethanol-based fixatives (e.g. significant tissue shrinkage, vacuolization and pyknotic nuclei). FineFIX also provides optimal preservation of tissue antigens, nuclear and cytoplasmic morphology and reduced lysis of red blood cells with preservation of the cytoplasmic membranes.

Formalin

Fixative Solution
Formalin is a fixation solution suitable for the preparation of histological specimens. It consists of 40% formaldehyde (4% w/w), diluted in distilled water at a 1/10 ratio and buffered to a pH of 7. As a fixative, Formalin provides the inactivation of the autolytic enzymes and bacteria that cause the putrefaction of tissues and the provision of structural stability to the chemical components of the protoplasm.

Formalin B

Fixative Solution
FormalinB is a fixation solution suitable for the preparation of histological specimens. It consists of 40% formaldehyde (4% w/w), diluted in distilled water at a 1/10 ratio and buffered to a pH 7.2-7.4. This pH allows a faster fixation because it stabilizes the balance between formaldehyde available for the fixation reaction and methylene glycol (more stable product that does not bind to proteins).

Alcohol70 is a ready-to-use holding and flushing solution, suitable for the preparation of histological specimens. The concentrations of alcohols are able to hold the samples already fixed and to flush both the samples and the container, removing salts contained in the fixation formalin.

Dehydration Solution for Tissue Processing
MileONE is a Milestone alcohol-based solution designed to grant consistent processing of normal and high-fat content tissues like breast, brain, fatty colon and skin.
Its optimized alcohol concentrations enhance dehydrating effects and lipid extraction, minimizing the risk of excessive dehydration and hardening compared to traditional ethanol solutions. It is also used for the rinsing step in tissue processing.

High Performance Xylene-Free Processing Solution
JFC Solution is an innovative, patented solution composed of a mixture of ethanol, isopropanol and a long chain hydrocarbon. Under the influence of microwave heating, this solution becomes highly effective in the extraction of water and lipids from biological tissue, in a single step, without the need of further dehydration or clearing. The miscibility of the three components of the JFC Solution allows the performance of dehydration and clearing in a single step, representing a significant advantage over the conventional processing method.

MileGREEN

MileGREEN

The Xylene Substitute
MileGREEN is a solvent, consisting of iso-paraffins and replaces xylene both at the clearing and mounting process. Moreover, it can be used for cleaning purposes for paraffin contaminated items, for example in HistosMATE module. When heated this solution becomes highly effective in the extraction lipids from biological tissue. MileGREEN is an almost odorless solvent and has the properties to solve fat and paraffin. Its formulation of low toxicity overcomes the drawbacks commonly associated with the xylene, a hazardous product for the human nervous system. MileGREEN also provides optimal structural preservation of fat cells structure, nuclear and cytoplasmic morphology.

Paraffin Wax
MileWAX is an impregnation and embedding medium suitable for the preparation of histological specimens. Wax is used to infiltrate and embed specimens after processing because biological tissues do not have the consistency required for obtaining suitable sections for optical microscopy diagnostics.

EDTA Based Decalcifying Solution
For enhanced decalcification, the process with EDTA is best carried out at a pH value of 7.2-7.4. Milestone has developed an innovative, pure unbuffered 10% EDTA solution, based on a stoichiometric mixture of bibasic or tribasic EDTA to reach this pH value without the addition of an acid/base buffer. The combination of increased temperature, stirring and the MoL-DECALCIFIER, during the decalcification phase allows fixation, decalcification and processing of bone marrows within 48 hours. A presentation during the “First Symposium on Pre- analytic of Pathological Specimens – Berlin March 2013” reported the first results on H&E, IHC, FISH and molecular using the Milestone’s decalcifying solution MoL-DECALCIFIER on bone marrow trephine biopsies.

Disinfectant detergent
SUPRASPOR is a ready-to-use disinfectant solution, with a broad spectrum of action, including sporicidal activity, given by the presence of hydrogen peroxide in association with alcohol. Its use on the surfaces of non-submersible devices ensures a cleaning effect as well as a disinfectant. The neutral pH of the solutions used helps to ensure the integrity of medical devices, usually corroded with the use of acid solutions. Supraspor disinfecant performances are improved when used with Viroclean, automatic biodecontamination system available for the UltraGROSS unit.
