Helping shape the future of diagnostics in Basel with Milestone instruments

Customer

Customer

Institute of Medical Genetics and Pathology at the University of Basel, Switzerland, is the largest of its kind in the country, processing around 150,000 probes annually (approximately 600 per day).
Challange

Challenge

With a high specimen volume, the institute needed to optimize embedding and decalcification processes to save technician time, improve turnaround, and maintain excellent sample quality—especially for bone and bone marrow biopsies.
Solution

Solution

By integrating LOGOS and Synergy, the institute saved 4–6 technician hours daily and eliminated re-embedding. The DecalMATE system improved bone and marrow processing, cutting turnaround time from 96–120 to 36–48 hours, while maintaining high quality and efficiency.

Challange

Challange

In 2017, the Anatomo-pathology Laboratory at Louis-Mourier Hospital closed and its operations were relocated to Bichat-Claude-Bernard Hospital’s laboratory. Consequently, it was necessary to find a solution to prevent storage and transportation of large samples in formalin, protecting operators against toxic exposure.
Solution

Solution

Thanks to TissueSAFE plus, large samples are placed under vacuum immediately after their extraction and sent to the Anatomo-pathology Lab, avoiding any formalin exposure.
A printed label is attached on the vacuum-sealed bag, ensuring complete traceability of the vacuum date and time, user and patient ID.
