Overview:
At Milestone, our passion for formalin safety is second to none. Our main objective is to provide a thorough education to everyone we meet about the dangers associated with formalin exposure and how these risks can be eliminated, making for a much safer work environment for all perioperative nurses. Through specimen management best practice education, we know you can dramatically reduce the potential for formalin exposure and formalin spills. Let us educate your nurses as the first step in this process.
This professional development activity will provide important information for perioperative RNs, scrub technologists, and other perioperative team members participating in specimen management. The activity will address when and why errors in specimen management occur, methods for protecting the integrity of a surgical specimen, the difference between formaldehyde and formalin, and the associated exposure risks. This activity will also present critical components for maintaining a safe perioperative environment when managing chemicals, such as formalin, as well as regulatory requirements for limiting personnel exposure, managing chemical spills, and requirements for eyewash stations. The activity concludes with an overview of vacuum sealing devices and automated formalin dispensing systems as best practices for reducing or eliminating the risk of formalin exposure.
