Webinar 5: Fixating on Fixation (199-005-12)

  • Date: Thursday, June 7, 2012 @ 12:00pm CST

  • Abstract: Changes in the ASCO/CAP guidelines for ER/PgR and Her2 have focused attention on fixation and standardization. Why is 10% Neutral Buffered Formalin the fixative of choice? What about use of alternative fixatives? How do you balance rapid tissue processing and weekend schedules to fit within the recommendations for minimum and maximum fixation times? This workshop will discuss fixatives, fixation, and ways to help balance workload within the standardized fixation recommendations.

    • Discuss fixation standardization guidelines
    • Impact of formalin fixation and crosslinking on IHC
    • Integrating fixation standardization into routine histology schedule
